Firm foundation

Dear family and friends,

This past week was really good! Elder Torgerson and I probably had out best 3 day period that we've ever had together. We saw many miracles and the Lord's hand was upon us in all of our labors. We welcomed in the new year with another transfer coming to a close and many changes to come but for us.... no change. Elder Torgerson and I will stay together and he will be my last companion. I'm very excited to see what miracles we will be able to see as we labor diligently for this transfer.

On Tuesday one of my good friends Elder Fullford was concluding his mission so we capped it off with some buffalo wild wings. We all ate a good amount of wings and we also all ate one of their blazin wings and it was a very spicy wing. Afterwards we went to a lesson with those elders with a miracle woman that had reached out to them on social media and that lived in our area. Her name is Michelle and she is so interested in learning more and has already taken so much in and is so humble and open. She's a younger mother and recently has been open to the beauty of Christ's gospel. She is a student of the bible and reads it religiously. She became aware of the church when one day a parent from her son's soccer team said that he was a Latter Day Saint. This turned in her mind for many days and she desired to learn more about these latter day Saints. She is awesome and we're meeting with her this thursday!

We had much success with other meetings and all of these appointments helped us to avoid the weather this week. It rained almost everyday which is unusual for Tucson. It was also super cold.

Another event from this past week was that one of my good friends that I've made on the mission, Elder Soifua, who I've ran with a lot this past transfer challenged me on the new year to run an 8 mile run with him at under an 8 minute mile pace. That evening I didn't really know if I could do it but I felt I could do it so I agreed. The run started off great and I felt better than I could have expected and went well for the first 5 miles. The last 3 mile stretch we were running into about 15 mile per hour winds and they truly beat upon me. My body still felt great but these winds were beating upon my mind and I often felt like stopping. It really reminded me of those verses in the sermon in the mount about "when the rains come and the winds blow and beat upon our house" , they really were beating upon me but while thinking about these verses it reminded me that the foundation was what gave the wise man's structure the strength. I had adequate training to finish this run without giving up. I had ran many runs preparing me for this run. It showed me how it was the little things that I had done to prepare that strengthened me in this moment. Its been the same for me spiritually. My small efforts of reading my scriptures and praying and serving others give me strength for when I confront the spiritual hardships in my life. We did accomplish our goal of running 8 miles and we did so with a faster pace than 8 minutes per mile! It was a good way to start off the new year.

I had many opportunities to bear my testimony this week and have various discussions about testimony and belief with others and I'm grateful for the things that I do know. I do not know everything but what I do know gives me the strength to continue forward and gives me more hope than any other source could!

Happy new year and have a good week!

The miracle of Golf

Dear family and friends,  We had a really great week this past week! We worked really hard and made a ton of contacts with people in our area and saw a lot of cool tender mercies and miracles! Elder Torgerson and I have been trying out a new style of contacting this past week and it's been really awesome. We put a different contact in for every 15 minute period during our day. Some take longer, some are shorter but it allows us to get in with some people we have not seen for quite a while.  This past week we also went golfing with Tommyee's husband David. We got special permission from our mission President to go and play with him! As many of you may know I love to Golf and so does David so it worked out and we went and played 18 holes at the course in their neighborhood. It was the first time in my life that I've actually played 18 holes and it took a lot longer than we had anticipated it was going to. We were diligent that as soon as we got done we changed and went to ...

Last Haul

Well I'm pushing into the last week of my mission. It is hard to believe that this really is the end. It doesn't feel all too different from everything else that I've done these last 14 months, it just feels like the end of another transfer. I would be lying if I said I was not looking forward to seeing family and friends, some of which I have not seen for nearly 3 years which is crazy to think about. I have cherished the time I've had to serve as a missionary and I'm super grateful that I was able to return to be a full time missionary despite the obstacle of the pandemic. I welcome what comes next and I really don't have too much of an idea as to what lies ahead of me at this point. There is a lot that still is up in the air but I know that the Lord will provide.  This past week was good. Fairly normal. We were able to teach some lessons. Meet some new people. Share the gospel with others and we had some great meals provided for us.  We actually had the oppo...

Ya me voy

Dear family and friends, I received news this past saturday that I will be leaving Sahuarita and Elder Mortenson and heading back up to Tucson. We have 4 tucson zones in the mission and this will be the last one I need to serve in, east zone. I'm excited to for the change and am very optimistic about the area! I was only here for 6 weeks in this area and with elder Mortenson during his training so it will be sad to leave it all behind. This has been one of my most challenging transfers of my mission thus far and the Lord really refined and humbled me in the process, he has a way of doing that to us. I have never pleaded more for heavenly help for something beyond my own personal needs than I have in this past transfer. It truly brought me down to the lowest depth of humility and made me stand back multiple times and say, "I dont know what to do, take my hand and guide me." Each time that I was humble enough to utter that phrase the Lord guided everytime, sometimes it wa...
