WEEK 4 ¡Devin Durrant!

Well it's already been a month and the time here is flying by you've all heard the saying the days are long but the weeks are short and that is the truth! This week has been pretty awesome for a lot of reasons we had our last TRC visit with Olivia and it was really awesome I actually said some things in spanish that I think made some sense and we invited her to church (which requires you to use future tense!!) And we think she went well really never know sadly!

Sunday we had normal church and had our last Sunday with our branch president President bankhead who i really liked but its alright because our new branch president it honestly a beast, hes Devin Durant. If you dont know who that is hes basically the jimmer of the 1980's he played for the suns and Pacers in his NBA career which is crazy! Hes talked in conference three times (once as a 21 year old return missionary) he was a mission president in the dallas texas mission which is where the two elders in my room are serving and he just was released as a member of the Sunday school first presidency so hes had some big time callings! He gave us a lesson Sunday which you could totally tell he was a mission president by how he taught which was cool. He asked us about us and all of us said oh I played in the stats championship for this, I was a sterling scholar, I got into this school. And he said all of those things are awesome but why do we never say our connection to the savior and his church when we introduce ourselves? He used the scpriture 3 Nephi 5: 13 where mormon introduces himself and he said "Behold I am a deciple of Jesus Christ, the son of god. I have been called of him to declare his word among his people, that they might have everlasting life!" And that is exactly what everyone in the room is also a deciple of jesus christ called by him through a prophet do declare his word to the people of ARIZONA TUCSON that they might have everlasting life and it can be applied to everyone who loves the lord enough to share his gospel is a deciple of Christ! Very awesome he was also the Sunday night devotional speaker which is crazy haha but him and his wife talked about love the and importance of it in our work and that we need to love those we teach first because it helps them to receive our message and be more open to receive this truth! Very good talk.

another thing that has stood out to me while I've been here and especially while one been here has been the gratitude I have to have had the gospel in my life the whole time and how much it has blessed me and to have had the family  that I've had. Two parents who love each other and  their children so much that they'd do anything for them. In preisthood meeting this Sunday we were talking about faith and a young man in our zone shared that he was adopted at the age of 13 and before that had no family just bounced around foster homes and shared the the fear he has leaving the family he has only had for a short five years and the love they had showed unto him. And I later had a longer talk with that kid where he went into more detail about his life from age 0-13 bouncing around foster homes and being destroyed menatally at a point being deemed mentally retarded and failing special ed classes. He expressed to the adoption board that he has two desires in a family 1. Being close to his blood brother, 2. Having a loving LDS family. His story shows the importance of love in people life because for those first 13 years of his life we was called stupid, an idiot, and that he wasn't worth it so he believed these things but as soon as he hasthe opportunity to have the love of a family and to genuinely feel loved so much changed, he graduated high school with a 4.0 and top 10 in his and he expresses that this is because of the love he felt from this family and how much it changed his life and he knows that the gospel was one of the biggest blessings  and protections in his life at this point. This gospel truly blessed lives and changes them I'm so grateful for it and I'm so grateful for my loving family and I've learned so much from their example because many others do not have what I have been blessed to have.

I have much more i couple write but i dont wanna write a novel here ahah but I'll leave ya with a spiritual thought if you're going through a trial read James 1 2-6 it's about faith in our trials and how it's a blessing to have trials because it builds us up in many ways and I have seen this in my life in the MTC I've needed alot of patience with my trials.

Congrats eric thackeray on the mission call you'll do great things for the people of Norway. Love yoy mate

Saw elder riches this morning and quite a bit hell be a great missionary and has been a blessing in my life here! I'll send a picture of us that makes us look 5 years old haha.

Love you all and if anyone has any gospel questions or life questions I can share my personal help and insights. Have a great week all.

The miracle of Golf

Dear family and friends,  We had a really great week this past week! We worked really hard and made a ton of contacts with people in our area and saw a lot of cool tender mercies and miracles! Elder Torgerson and I have been trying out a new style of contacting this past week and it's been really awesome. We put a different contact in for every 15 minute period during our day. Some take longer, some are shorter but it allows us to get in with some people we have not seen for quite a while.  This past week we also went golfing with Tommyee's husband David. We got special permission from our mission President to go and play with him! As many of you may know I love to Golf and so does David so it worked out and we went and played 18 holes at the course in their neighborhood. It was the first time in my life that I've actually played 18 holes and it took a lot longer than we had anticipated it was going to. We were diligent that as soon as we got done we changed and went to ...

Last Haul

Well I'm pushing into the last week of my mission. It is hard to believe that this really is the end. It doesn't feel all too different from everything else that I've done these last 14 months, it just feels like the end of another transfer. I would be lying if I said I was not looking forward to seeing family and friends, some of which I have not seen for nearly 3 years which is crazy to think about. I have cherished the time I've had to serve as a missionary and I'm super grateful that I was able to return to be a full time missionary despite the obstacle of the pandemic. I welcome what comes next and I really don't have too much of an idea as to what lies ahead of me at this point. There is a lot that still is up in the air but I know that the Lord will provide.  This past week was good. Fairly normal. We were able to teach some lessons. Meet some new people. Share the gospel with others and we had some great meals provided for us.  We actually had the oppo...

Ya me voy

Dear family and friends, I received news this past saturday that I will be leaving Sahuarita and Elder Mortenson and heading back up to Tucson. We have 4 tucson zones in the mission and this will be the last one I need to serve in, east zone. I'm excited to for the change and am very optimistic about the area! I was only here for 6 weeks in this area and with elder Mortenson during his training so it will be sad to leave it all behind. This has been one of my most challenging transfers of my mission thus far and the Lord really refined and humbled me in the process, he has a way of doing that to us. I have never pleaded more for heavenly help for something beyond my own personal needs than I have in this past transfer. It truly brought me down to the lowest depth of humility and made me stand back multiple times and say, "I dont know what to do, take my hand and guide me." Each time that I was humble enough to utter that phrase the Lord guided everytime, sometimes it wa...
